12. In the classroom with Chris

12. In the classroom with Chris

“Haaaah, one more week~……”

After school, Lucinda sighed for the tenth time that day as she flopped down on her desk in the classroom.

Meanwhile, Mia, who was sitting in the chair next to her, glanced at Lucinda disapprovingly.

“Didn’t we have exams in our previous life?”

“Yes, but no matter how many times I do it, I still hate it. And everything that we learned about geography and history from our previous lives is useless, so we have to memorize it all over again…”

The first regular exam of the school year was coming up soon. If it were a practical exam in magic, Lucinda would be happy to practice, but when it was a written exam for general subjects, she couldn’t summon any enthusiasm.

Mia seemed to be able to absorb everything well, but Lucinda was depressed just thinking about the exam.

“The scope of this exam isn’t that much, so as long as you study properly, you should be fine.”

“But even after going over my textbook and notes, I still can’t get my head around it.”

“Hmm, maybe your method of studying just isn’t that good.”

Perhaps Mia had a better study method in mind for Lucinda—she placed her index finger on her chin and fell silent, contemplating.

Soon after, she seemed to come up with a great idea and exclaimed brightly, “Yes, that’s it!”

“Since you’re so close with Chris and Ray, why don’t you ask them to teach you how to study!”

“……well, that might be a good idea, but……”

It was undoubtedly a good idea to have intelligent people help her study. But when Lucinda saw the strange grin on Mia’s face, she couldn’t help but feel that she was thinking about something else.

“Don’t worry! I’m not thinking about anything crazy!….Really! I’ll be satisfied if you show me just a little bit of your one-on-one study session.”

“What, you mean you’re going to hide somewhere and spy on us?”

“No way! Don’t worry~ I’ll just set up the magic tool that I made and record the video, so you don’t have to worry about me watching you.”

“Well…that’s not creepy at all…..”

‘I knew she was thinking of something crazy. Really, it’s a waste of talent if you ask me. Or perhaps it’s an obsession. Developing such an advanced magic tool for the purpose of peeping…’

“Look, if we record your study session, then you can look back and review it later. It’s a win-win situation, isn’t it?”

“Is that so…? I see, okay then.”

Mia, who was completely convinced of her plan, shouted with joy.

“Yay!!! We’re going to get a study session!~”

◇◇◇

The following day after school, Chris was teaching Lucinda history in an empty classroom.

“I don’t mind helping you study for the exam, but why are we doing it in a classroom? I would rather do it back in the mansion.”

Chris asked a reasonable question, but there was a reason why they had to do it here. Since Mia insisted on having them ‘wearing the school uniform in a classroom setting,’ Lucinda had no choice but to do this.

“Umm you see, I thought it would be better to study in a classroom without distractions.”

“Hmmm. Well, alright, if that’s what you want. Now, show me the parts that you don’t understand.”

Chris seemed to accept Lucinda’s excuse and sat down on the seat next to her, glancing at her textbook.

“Thanks! I think this time, the history exam will be about the events surrounding the White Lilies War, but I can’t quite wrap my head around it all.”

According to the textbook, the “War of the White Lilies” was a war fought over a saint between the Kingdom of Rass and the neighboring Kingdom of Marais. The reason why it was called the “War of the White Lilies” was that the symbol of a saint, as defined by the Orthodox Church, was a white lily.

Chris flipped through his textbook, found a page describing the War of the White Lilies, and placed it in front of Lucinda.

“Perhaps it’s difficult for you to remember because you only try to memorize the year and the name of events. I know you like adventure stories. What about trying to memorize historical events as stories? Then you’ll remember them better. Can you do that?”

“Historical events are also stories……”

As Lucinda sat still and blinked at this eye-opening realization, Chris began to speak.

“In the first place, the War of the White Lilies broke out when the saint awakened at the age of eighteen. The Kingdom of Marais, where she was born and raised until the age of fifteen, and the Kingdom of Rass, where she lived for three years until the age of eighteen, fought to claim the saint as their own.”

Lucinda nodded her head in agreement.

“After the awakening, the Kingdom of Rass claimed the saint and locked her up. In the name of retrieving the saint, the Kingdom of Marais used force, and there was a series of bloody battles between the two kingdoms. In the end, the knight of a third kingdom, the Kingdom of Roa, rescued the saint from the Kingdom of Rass and asked the neutral Orthodox Church to protect her, ending the war.”

Chris made eye contact with Lucinda, as if to assess her understanding.

“The three countries that were involved in the conflict held peace talks, and the following year, a pact was signed regarding the saint. The three kingdoms agreed that, in the future, they must inform the Orthodox Church if a saint awakens for the saint to be recognized by the church. Also, it was decided that the treatment of saints, including which country they belong to and which country they use their power for, should be their own choice, regardless of their country of birth or residence.”

“I see……”

In Lucinda’s mind, scenes from an epic RPG battle over the saint were playing out.

The protagonist would be a knight from the Kingdom of Roa. In order to save the imprisoned saint, he would infiltrate the Kingdom of Rass with his trusty companions, defeat all enemies that stood in his way, and rescue the beautiful saint from the tower of imprisonment. Then, with everyone’s blessing, the knight and the saint are united, and the end credits roll …….

Although she had such fantasies, Lucinda wondered what had actually happened. The textbook didn’t say anything about what happened to the saint and the knight after the end of the war.

Thinking that Chris, who was very knowledgeable, might know about it, she asked him. He gave her an unexpected answer.

“According to the history books, the knight rose to become a Knight Commander in the Kingdom of Roa. The saint returned to her country of birth, the Kingdom of Marais. It is said that she married a childhood friend who was a blacksmith, and lived by treating villagers’ injuries and so on, living out her life to the fullest.”

‘I’m sure he was a good knight. I’m also glad to hear that the saint lived happily ever after.’

Although the actual ending differed from the plot in her imagination, it wasn’t so bad. Chris stared at Lucinda as she smiled to herself, relieved by the happy ending.

“…were you able to understand how you can memorize history lessons from this example?”

“Yes, your explanation was really helpful, so I think I can remember it properly! Thank you very much!”

‘I’m really glad that Chris taught me. Now I know the method of memorization that suits me best.’

When Lucinda thanked him with a smile, Chris gently patted Lucinda’s head and smiled with satisfaction.

“By the way, how do you study, big brother?”

Lucinda asked casually, and Chris replied indifferently.

“I can memorize most things after reading them once.”

“A-Ah…as expected…”

She had always known he was clever, but it seemed that Chris’s brain was in a whole different league.

Although she had already surpassed him in terms of cumulative life experience from her previous life, Lucinda realized that from now on, she would be better off not trying to surpass him in terms of intellectual age.
